Solar Quest

In this game, you take on the role of a Chinese scholar from the 11th century CE who, during an expedition into the interior of the empire, discovers that the position of royal astronomer is vacant, and that the emperor is impatiently seeking a worthy replacement for the role.

Running a bit late, you must cross the endless fertile plateaus of China to return to the capital, while desperately trying to complete your astronomy studies in time to impress the court and the emperor.

Your main task is to catalog and map strange dark spots and vapors that appear on the solar disk — the same phenomenon we know today as sunspots, marks left by the Sun’s powerful magnetic field on its surface.

Since ancient times, the Chinese have learned to observe sunspots when the Sun is low on the horizon, or when clouds partially cover its disk — and this is exactly the method you will use for your cataloging work.
